Maundy Thursday Celebration at St. Xavier Church, Udyavar.

St. Xavier Church, Udyavar, solemnly celebrated Maundy Thursday on April 2, 2026, commemorating the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood.
The Eucharistic celebration was led by Rev. Fr. Stephen Rodrigues as the main celebrant. He was joined by Rev. Fr. Anil D’Souza and Rev. Fr. Vijay Machado as concelebrants. Deacon Kevin D’Souza assisted during the Mass with reverence and devotion.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Vijay Machado reflected deeply on the significance of Maundy Thursday, emphasizing the themes of humility, service, and love as exemplified by Jesus during the Last Supper. He encouraged the faithful to embody these virtues in their daily lives, especially through acts of selfless service and compassion.
A significant highlight of the liturgy was the washing of the feet, performed by Rev. Fr. Anil D’Souza, symbolizing Christ’s humility and call to serve others. This meaningful rite reminded the congregation of their vocation to love and serve one another selflessly.
The faithful participated prayerfully in the celebration, entering into the spirit of the sacred Triduum. The altar of repose was prepared with devotion, and parishioners spent time in adoration, reflecting on the agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The celebration was marked by deep faith, unity, and reverence, drawing the parish community closer to the mystery of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection.
