Catholic Sabha was started on April 29,1979, under the guidance and support of the Bishop. The motive of this association is – Serve, Sacrifice, Unite. This association is now registered under “All India Catholic Union”.
In Udyavar, the Catholic Sabha was born on February 26, 1989, by Rev. Fr Stanley Pereira who was the founding Spiritual Animayer then. The first President and secretary of the association were Mr. Louis Cardoza and Mr Antony J Pinto respectively. Every year this organization works hard for the development and upliftment of local community as well as the Church and the neighborhood. They conduct programs like health check camps,common blessing of vehicles once every year, honoring students who have scored high with the help of Udyavarites, UAE, awareness programs on politics, law, finance etc., making and renewal of Manipal Health Cards, helping the poor specially during festivals with food, money or clothes, etc. Every parish priest in Udyavar has supported the organization and mentored them well.
Catholic Sabha is an association of the laity and they work hard for the betterment of the society. At present, there are 301 life-members in Udyavar. Catholic Sabha has a monthly magazine called “Amcho Sandesh” (Our Message). They cover a lot of good articles covering every aspect of life. There are nearly 200 subscriptions in our parish.
Currently, Mrs. Judith Pereira and Mrs. Irene Pereira are the working President and Secretary of the association in our parish. Catholic Sabha helps the mentally and physically disabled children at “Manasa”, Pamboor, Udupi.
