Grand parents and Elders Day Celebration In Udyavar Parish
On 28 July 2024 Sunday at 7:30am, a Thanksgiving mass was offered for the gift of grand parents and elderly in the parish. Rev. Fr Anil D’Souza, the Parish Priest offered the mass and preached highlighting the importance of the day using the theme “Do not cast me away when I am old” – Psalm 71:9.
Thereafter a formal program was organized by the Family Commission in collaboration with the Catholic Sabha Association of the Parish in the Parish hall in Honor of the Elders of the parish.
Catholic Church holds Elders in high esteem for their experience and contribution: Rev. Fr Anil D’Souza.
For a peaceful life on earth we need JOY that is “Jesus, Others and You” – Mr Joseph Mendonca.
In his response to the program Mr Joseph Mendonca of Fathima A ward also said Our role as Senior Citizens is to guide and to be role models to the younger generation. So we need to be joyful. If we consider Happiness and JOY we must look for JOY because Happiness is temporary and JOY is everlasting
Age is just a Number – Mrs. Shantha Fernandes
While thanking God for the gift of life, Mrs Shantha said, Be relaxed and enjoy. Have fresh air and do a bit of walking as exercise. Then our minds will be fresh and we will be able to sleep well. We don’t have to worry about anything. When we keep our focus on healthy things surely we will enjoy our future life.
On Grandparents Day two elders Mr Charles Machado and Mrs. Jetrud Fernandes centered the stage along with Priests of the parish, Vice president Mr Lawrence D’Sa, Secretary Mr John M D’Souza, 20 Commissions Coordinator Mr Gerald Pereira, Catholic Sabha representative Mr Steevan Lewis, Family commission coordinator Mr Wilfred Crasto, and guest of Honor Mr Alwyn Andrade
During the program many games were conducted to the elderly and prizes were distributed to winners and a tea party was arranged to enhance the joy of the day.
In the same event, Mr Alwyn Andrade was honored for his achievement in the inter and intra-district physical training department and recent appointment as youth block physical trainer for Haveri district. Mr Lawrence D’Sa spelled out the achievements to the congregation and guests on the stage honoured Him along with his mother.
It was a coincidence that Mr Lawrence D’Sa had his birthday. Rev Fr Anil wished him by offering a Rose and the congregation sang the melody of birthday.
Mr Wilfred D’Souza mastered the ceremony, Catholic Sabha representative Mr Steevan Lewis welcomed the gathering, Mr Steevan Colaco conducted the games Mr Wilfred Crasto – Coordinator of the Family Commission thanked the gathering.
